“Sandclock” is the first collaborative single by Shanghai based singer/songwriter Voision Xi and producer Sdewdent. Take a moment looking inside of time, everything goes and comes, and only time will tell. We dedicate this song to you who want to memorize a special spell.

“Taking inspiration from Yussef Dayes & Alfa Mist’s ‘Love Is The Message’, Common & J.Dilla’s ‘Time Travellin (A Tribute To Fela)’, Mansur Brown’s ‘Straight To The Point’, Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu)’s ‘Joint 17’ and Kamasi Washington’s ‘Street Fighter Mass’, after many times I buried myself to these, in my opinion, all-time classics, they presented to me with this type of vibe to let me experiment spontaneously.
 
From the onset of the production, I just want to create a special vibe with distant chords, immediate drum grooves, some modular synth textures and a loose but strong bassline. Nonetheless, a beat is just a beat... I sent the demo to one of my favorite artists Voision Xi and she replied:’I can give it a try on this one.’ That was the magic hour when a broke, underground beatmaker got a chance to work with a kind, experienced and skillful vocalist. She offers a poetic message of time to each persona around us and she helped me fix the rhythm and melodies dancing correctly. I challenged myself for many times on the mixing and mastering part. After trail and error, I asked for one of my mentors during Eating Music Camp 2019, Eric Lau. He just musically polished it and turned to the final product as you can hear now. That was another magic hour happened to us.

It’s been months since I made the demo track. I treated it as a normal, bland, experimental beat in the first place but now it’s a whole journey.
